Post-Partum Physio

Your family has grown. Your little one is doing great. Now it’s time for you to start your recovery and get back to being active again. In addition to specialized care for newborns, Summerside Physio also offers physio support for new mothers to help with their recovery, pain, and activity goals. Maybe you just need a little more advice about safe ways to get active again, or maybe your body is still healing from the pregnancy and delivery process. Regardless of your situation, we can help you feel your best and get moving again!

Here are just a few examples of the services we provide new mothers!

  • C-sections are major abdominal surgeries, but unfortunately women are often only provided with very limited guidance on how to achieve optimal recovery.  We can help! We would love to help guide you through your rehabilitation process so that you can start feeling confident and strong again (regardless of how long ago you had your c-section). Our mission is to help empower you by providing you with the knowledge and skills for:

    -Pain management

    -Scar management 

    -Retraining and strengthening the core, postural muscles, and the body as a whole

    -Help with the management of the commonly referred to post c-section “shelf”. 

    -Return to activity 

  • Are you concerned that you may have a separation of the abdominal muscles? Whether you would like to address the appearance of your abdominals, are concerned about other potential health implications, or just want to restore your strength, we can help! Your physiotherapy for DRA includes:

    -a thorough assessment of your core and abdominal wall

    -measurement of your inter-recti distance 

    -postural assessment (yes, our body’s resting position often changes after having a baby!)

    -a functional assessment of your core 

    -the development of a comprehensive and progressive rehabilitation plan tailored specifically to you and your goals 

    -consistent education and support to help guide you through your recovery 

    -return to activity or sport 

  • Calling postpartum moms! Have you recently had a baby? Are you wanting to start moving your body again and don’t know where to start? We are passionate about helping moms safely and effectively return to activity (whatever that might look like)! We can help with:

    -Retraining and strengthening the core/hips, and pelvic girdle. 

    -management of back and hip pain (and other areas of the body!)

    -return to activity

    -return to sport 

  • Your body may have been through a lot during pregnancy and delivery, but that doesn't mean you can't participate and COMPETE at the level you're used to. We can help you recover, train, and return to sport not only safely but effectively, and get you back doing what you love.
